Service with a smile...
You know it is a rare thing in my world when service at a restaurant or store actually impresses me. I mean go to McDonald's and the drive thru attendant will ask "What the hell do you want?" SERIOUSLY!!! This is the world in which we live now?
Well I get to eat these thoughts a little bit, and I could not be happier about it. I was at a Gelato shop with my girlfriend and our two daughters. First off the ice cream was great. For anyone that has never had gelato you need to find somewhere and try it. It is just amazing. I will say that even this place compared and even reminded me of the gelato place that I went to in Italy and they did very well with it.
Now off my ADD moment my girl paid for the ice cream and they had trouble with the machine and we sat down while the server tried to make it work. We were sitting there playing around and joking with our kids when this server walked up. She looked a little sullen but without skipping a beat started talking.
She said, "I am so sorry but there was a problem with your card that I've called my manager to fix." We sat there nearly in shock. But she continued, "I accidently charged you $117.40 instead of $17.40." To say the least we were shocked. But in all fairness, mistakes do happen. In fact not only was it just a mistake but she immediately took responsibility. Now anyone dealing with 17 year old at this point in time knows that is an extremely rare occurrence.
Then without any prompting she explained that she had called her manager and and that it was being taken care of immediately. I know this doesn't sound like a lot but in the sea of impatient drive thru attendants and over eager and totally annoying salesman at any store you go to. This improbable and totally recognizable gesture towards ownership and above average service was like a breath of fresh air.
So to all you current or future service personnel remember this. You are there to serve those that are purchasing your product not the other way around. I am sorry but me wanting a double cheeseburger with fries is not an inconvenience to you. If you feel it is. QUIT!!! Or at least take a lesson from this gelato shop attendant because she has earned a definite repeat business and on top of that a tip that she would never have normally gotten.
